XDA 8-Bit is a dye-sublimated PBT keycap set. It was sold as part of a group buy in November 2017 and extras were sold as in-stock items on TheVanKeyboards.com.
¶ Design
XDA 8-Bit is inspired by retro gaming from the 8-bit era of gaming consoles and specifically the original Nintendo. Featuring blocky font and icons alongside a clean two-tone gray and red, the set was designed as a nod to the nostalgic memories of playing games on those early consoles.
A matching limited edition painted aluminum case was created for XDA 8-Bit and was sold as part of a series of "ARTIZEN" MiniVans.
¶ Kits
XDA 8-Bit was produced in five different kits in order to maximize compatibility with a wide array of boards. XDA is a uniform keycap profile (no per-row sculpt) so some keys that may appear missing (like Caps Lock in the 100% Completion kit) may actually be included elsewhere (bottom row LOCK key in the World 1-1 base kit).
- World 1-1: 77 keys - The base kit designed to cover a MiniVan and a Roadkit. This is the only kit that includes alphas.
- 100% Completion: 52 keys - Adds a number row, function row, and modifiers to cover 60%, 80% (TKL), and 104-key (full-size) boards.
- Inventory Upgrade: 19 keys - A compatibility kit that adds a 7u spacebar and modifiers for WKL layouts, a handful of 1u keys for ortholinear keyboards, and a 2.75u spacebar for Banana Split support.
- Equipment Pack: 23 keys - The novelties kit. Classic 8-bit era icons like swords, shields, and bows are included as well as
RESETandPOWERspacebars
- Sprite Pack: 53 keys - An icon modifiers kit that replaces all of the text modifiers from the other kits and adds a few novelties not found in the Equipment Pack.
